Did US folding cartonboard demand rally too strongly in 2010?

By Ken Waghorne Thu, Mar 03, 2011

BEDFORD, MA, March 4, 2011 (RISI) -Last year proved to be a very good year for producers of bleached, unbleached or recycled cartonboard. Total production rose more than 4% for the year, as both domestic and export production rallied from the 2009 levels. Operating rates increased even more substantially (from 90% in 2009 to 97% in 2010) since some additional capacity was removed from the market in late 2009 and early 2010. This set the stage for producers of all grades to push through a series of price increases during the year.
