Sofidel: Fifty Years of Growth into the Future

The Sofidel Group is the second largest household and hygiene tissue manufacturer in Europe, and sixth largest in the world. Established in 1966, the Group has factories in 12 European countries and the United States, with over 5,500 employees, and a turnover of 1,809 million Euro in 2015. After entering the North-American market in 2012, the Group has today manufacturing factories in Haines City (FL), Green Bay (WI), Henderson (NV), Tulsa (OK), Hattiesburg (MS), and has commercial offices in Philadelphia (PA). In June 2016 Sofidel broke ground for its new first integrated plant in Circleville (OH), which will become the most important Sofidel factory in the US. Attention to the technological innovation, geographical coverage (presence of plants near the end markets), sustainability and strong commercial relations with the major players in large-scale distribution are some of the factors that have helped Sofidel to become one of the leading players in the world and that will be some of the strong points of Sofidel growth in the US market.


The North American Tissue Market - New Challenges

Expansion in a Sustainable Fashion to 2020

A mature market like tissue in North America brings its share of challenges but also a lot of opportunities. In this presentation, you will learn with examples, on how Cascades Tissue Group has built and will continue to build on its core belief in sustainability as it pursues its profitable growth. First producer in Canada and fifth producer in the USA, Cascades Tissue Group has strong expansion plans across the continent. It has announced the opening in the first quarter of 2017 of a state-of-the art converting facility in Oregon. By then, it will count 20 operating sites.

Clearwater Paper’s Group VP, Sales & Marketing - Joanne Shufelt will discuss “Winning in Private Label,” focusing on who wins with private label tissue and why it matters to retailers, shoppers and to the industry…as Clearwater Paper continues its next 50 years of private brand growth.

Clearwater Paper is a leader in the tissue category as the second largest private label producer in the USA. Clearwater Paper has a track record of growth with tissue facilities in Idaho, Nevada, Wisconsin, Illinois, Oklahoma and most recently with a greenfield site at Shelby, North Carolina. 


Institutional Channels Dynamic in North America and the Future of Tissue Demand

In a highly mature North American (US and Canada) tissue marketplace, the away-from-home tissue segment is fraught with its share of challenges. While there are still opportunities for tissue products and tissue premiumisation in, for instance, the hospitality industry, there are also challenges in driving sales. These challenges are shaped in no small part by the changing institutional landscape. Understanding the dynamic within the institutional channels is the key to assessing future risks and opportunities with respect to tissue demand in the away-from-home segment.

Euromonitor’s presentation will review the expected performance of the tissue products in away-from-home segment over 2015-2020 and will then discuss in more detail current and future trends in the institutional channels. The presentation will examine the size and behavior of all channels of an economy in North American markets, from government and healthcare to manufacturing and education. Some of the key trends in contract foodservice and contract cleaning will also be revealed.
