European graphic paper industry profitability levels stubbornly low

BRUSSELS, Oct. 25, 2013 (RISI) -Industry profitability levels for the main graphic paper grades in Western Europe have been in decline ever since the financial crisis started to impact the markets during late 2008. This year will be no exception as profitability levels in Europe will (probably) reach their lowest point in modern paper-making history.

Instead of being held in the Acropolis Convention and Exhibition Centre of Nice, where this main event traditionally used to be located, it took place in the new and spacious Fira de Barcelona Convention Centre in Gran Via, Barcelona.


Further capacity closures likely in the Western European coated mechanical market

BEDFORD, MA, March 25, 2013 (RISI) -Following a relatively mild 3% decline in 2011, the losses in European demand for coated mechanical gained momentum, plummeting 9% in 2012. Undermined by the weak economy and a further retreat in print advertising, coated mechanical demand was also hit by grade switching in 2012 as some consumers downgraded to lower-cost SC grades.
