How will extended elevated pulp prices affect the North American graphic paper market?

The Chilean earthquake has further stretched the already tight kraft pulp market, and North American mills are expected to face elevated pulp prices for approximately six months. Many mills will struggle with the higher costs and may be forced to close, but the impact will be much less severe than in Europe and Asia.

Tissue is a recession-steady and globally expanding business, as the resistance to economic recession showed in 2009. Tissue is also much less capital intensive than other papermaking sectors: the initial investment in a modest converting line can be rather small but you can become a niche player through such an undertaking.
