DS Smith

After studying Chemical Engineering in the UK, with a Masters in paper making science and technology, Niels began his career at SEA as a chemical engineer. The next few years were spent in Sweden at the company’s R&D facility.  He then went on to manage some of the largest paper mills in Europe including Aschaffenburg, Witzenhausen and Kemsley, transforming the business into operational and commercial successes. With the takeover of SEA by DS Smith, Niels rose up the ranks to become Head of Paper Division.

Divisional Head of Paper, at DS Smith, a leading provider of corrugated packaging, supported by recycling and papermaking operations. Niels has grown the business steadily and supported with the swift acquisitions across Europe and America. Launched the Research & Development division, tasked with creating innovative processes in paper manufacturing in partnerships, such as RISE, to focus on sustainable growth. Manages sales of over 4 million tonnes of paper internally and externally to businesses around the globe. Niels, based in The Netherlands, also works closely with management in regions to develop programs and training for the next generation at award winning mills.
