David Fortin has been with Fastmarkets RISI for more than 12 years. He spent the past 4 years focusing on the global wood pulp market. As a member of the wood pulp team he assisted with the World Pulp Monthly, the quarterly World Pulp and Recovered Paper Forecast and all other recurring reports. He has taken part in completing multiple in-depth risk studies and was the primary author of the Outlook for World Fluff Pulp Market. In 2013 he made the transition to the wood products economic analysis team at Fastmarkets RISI, focusing on Structural Panels. He is the author of the Structural Panel Commentary and is part of the team that produces the quarterly North American Wood Panels Forecast. He has a master’s degree in international economics and finance from the International Business School at Brandeis University and has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

This presentation will review Fastmarkets RISI’s take on the disparate impacts the pandemic has had on pulp end-use markets, demand for pulp, logistics and supply. We will walk through our assumptions on the aggregate impact from the crosscurrents in the global pulp market including demand by end-use, unexpected downtime and inventory levels and share our two year outlook on demand and supply.
