HD Forest is one of the largest independent forest management companies in the Baltics (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). The company has more than 20 years’ commercial forest management experience in the Baltics and is today managing more than 60,000 ha on behalf of individual owners, institutional investors and family offices. All of HD Forests’ clients own their own forests in a simple, direct setup which ensures transparency and free decision-making for the investor.
The CEO of the company, Peter Vind Larsen, has a forestry degree from Copenhagen University. Peter started his forestry career by pioneering commercial forest investments in emerging markets on behalf of institutional and other large-scale investors. First in the Baltics from 2000-2004, subsequently in Russia, Latin America, Asia and Africa.
From 2014-2016 Peter was involved in international timber trading between Europe and Asia - buying logs in Denmark, Germany, UK and France and selling in India, Vietnam and China – before getting back into forest management in the current position at HD Forest.
Peter is based in Denmark but travels frequently to the operations in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to coordinate with the app. 25 staff members at HD Forest.

The transition in governments in the Baltics from the Soviet Union to independence beginning in 1991 has provided some excellent opportunities for timberland investors, both domestic and from overseas. Are good returns still possible for overseas investors in forestry in the Baltics, or have the opportunites mostly passed? This talk will discuss key metrics of forestry in the three Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania), as well as comparing and contrasting the forest resources and industry in each country.
