Chairman’s Corner – 21 January 2021
It is our pleasure to welcome you back to the U.S. for PPI Transport Symposium 24, organized by Fastmarkets RISI in association with the International Forest Products Transport Symposium (IFTPA). This is the IFPTA’s largest bi-annual event which provides an excellent networking framework to encourage communication and innovation among all roles and participants in the forest products transportation industry.
Join us September 14-16, 2021 in Jacksonville, Florida, home of the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) – one of the most diversified ports in the South Atlantic offering a transportation and logistics ecosystem dedicated to the handling of forest products. Strategically located in the growing Southeast U.S., JAXPORT is positioned in the heart of the nation’s forest products production region with major producers such as Georgia Pacific, WestRock, and others close to port terminals. Jacksonville’s skilled workforce, with a variety of labor options, is experienced in handling all types of forest products from logs and lumber to paper products, wood pulp and more.
We cannot ignore the concerns of COVID-19, and we want to emphasize that the health and safety of our members and attendees is our first priority. Our team, alongside the hotel staff, are working to design an event that follows all recommended health and safety guidelines. We remain hopeful that as vaccines are administered to individuals around the globe the threat will minimize, and confidence will grow for travel and in-person events. With this optimism, we are moving forward, and believe that this may be one of the first industry events that will give the networking opportunities we have all been missing.
Jacksonville is a unique destination – with 22 miles of beaches, an extensive park system, world-class fishing and golf, eclectic museums, creative coastal cuisine, craft beer and much more. The Symposium will be hosted at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, just a short distance from Jacksonville International Airport. The property offers extraordinary amenities including an onsite spa, seven onsite restaurants and lounges, a Cabana Beach Club and access to the famed TPC Sawgrass Golf Club – home to The Players Championship.
Beyond a desirable coastal location, we are developing a program that will model past events while building on the success of past symposiums. The IFPTA Board of Directors is committed to delivering sessions full of relevant and important topics. A full agenda will be available in the coming weeks. In 2021 we plan to address the latest trends and challenges facing the industry including: future emissions requirements for ocean carriers, changing trade lanes, port expansions, innovations in technology and much more. The format will combine engaging panel discussions, interactive round table discussion, and keynote presentations.
We invite you to take this opportunity to interact with friends old and new and learn more about the changing landscape of the logistics of forest products against a picturesque backdrop in Florida.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates about the event program, special events and sights to see in the next editions of the IFPTA newsletters.
