João Lé is an Executive Director at The Navigator Company from January 2020, and member of Navigator’s Executive Committee. He is responsible for the areas of forestry, wood supply, sustainability, Mozambique and RAIZ (R&D). He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors at Portucel Moçambique.
João Lé has been with The Navigator Company for 29 years, having assumed the responsibility for the Forestry Division in August 2007 and, in July 2016, was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Executive Committee of Portucel Moçambique, responsible for the relationship with shareholders, forestry operations, plant production, planning, communication and relationship with communities, sustainability and forest management certification. He is also a member of the board of RAIZ – Forest and Paper Research Institute.
João Lé, 54, graduated in Agricultural Economics at Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) of the University of Lisbon and has two post-graduations, one in Silviculture by ISA and the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, and another in Management and Financials by ISCTE in Lisbon.

Portugal is the third largest producer of wood pulp in Europe, and relies on a significant volume of hardwood chip imports from Uruguay and Portugal to supplement domestic wood supplies. This presentation will give an overview of the Portuguese pulp and paper sector and their potential need for woodfiber imports.
