John has together over 35 years’ experience in the forestry, pulp and paper and woodchip export industries in South Africa. He is employed as General Manager Timber Exports and New Business Development with TWK, a diversified timber and agri business with assets in both South Africa and Swaziland. TWK’s Forestry Division owns plantations, sawmills, a woodchip mill, trades in timber and exports to the international market.

John holds a graduate and post graduate degree in Forestry from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.


Outlook for South Africa woodchip supply

South Africa has long been a key supplier of hardwood chips to the Asian markets, but reported imports in Asia have declined from 3.3 million BDMT in 2005 to only 1.4 million BDMT in 2018. This presentation will discuss the sustainability of woodchip supply sources, and will also provide news of any new chip export facilities in the rest of Africa.
